#181 – Feature Teams
There seems to be a consensus among product management “thought leaders” that having Feature Teams will eventually lead to Feature Factories. We don’t agree. Having Feature Teams that can deliver features across a limited range of products (e.g., confined to their product line or value stream) shouldn’t lead to a less outcome-focused approach to value delivery.
The key is being attentive to each team’s cognitive load (or any other indicator of their heads being filled up to their bursting point) and helping them build up the competencies needed to work across related products, so you can be adaptive across the products if the demand shifts. And, in regards to product ownership, who says that only one team should own a product?
