#187 – The UX-er in the Team

In some organizations, the User Experience competency sits with specific individuals (UX-ers) that are organized as a Shared Service in a central department from which Scrum teams (and teams of teams) can borrow a UX-er temporarily. In other organizations, the UX competency sits with UX-ers that are a permanent part of the Scrum team.

If you’re transitioning from the former scenario to the latter, make sure that the previously shared UX-ers understand what it means to be part of a Scrum team—e.g., that they’re now a ‘developer’ and not a specialist, so the UX-related tasks are identified during refinement, that they are not handed over from the UX-er to the rest of the team, and that the UX competency should be built with the other developers.
