Many organizations have now been on their SAFe journey for quite a while, and their next step is often to either take the scaling to the next level with Lean Portfolio Management, Lean Budgeting and Solution Trains, or, on the other hand, to descale and focus more on products and Product Management.

No matter which route your organization is on, do remember to frequently inspect whether the overhead of running SAFe or any other scaling framework (e.g., the extra roles, events and artifacts) still gives you the appropriate benefits (e.g., continuous alignment between the teams, internally, as well as with the Business Owners)—or whether these benefits can be delivered in more effective ways. It’s never an excuse to keep doing something just because the method/framework says so, and most organizations are luckily starting to get that.
