#121 – Scrum Master Timing

In order for a Scrum Team to become a high-performing and mature one that lives the Scrum Values (Openness, Respect, Commitment, Courage and Focus), sharing each Developer’s individual values, goals, ambition and the likes is foundational to building the trust needed to grow as a team–e.g., through The Team Canvas.

Typically, it’s the Scrum Master who’ll need to make sessions like this happen. For it to resonate with Developers, besides timing, motivation is everything, especially when it comes to (in many Developers’ eyes) “touchy-feely” workshops like this. So, to get the needed buy-in, connect the outcome of the session with a current, meaningful pain or impediment (e.g., if PBIs queue up because of competency silos in the team, but the Developers think it’s important to learn from each other, start doing Social Programming).
