#170 – DevOperations

DevOps is, among other things, about having both the development and operations competencies in the same team (there’s something in the name that indicates this, we think). Here, the Dev folks must accept that Ops is now an inherent part of their lives, so new tasks need to be done, such as continuously monitoring the application in order to proactively act on notifications or alarming performance trends.

No matter how fun it might be to hold on to development tasks by continuously configuring these fancy new automation, orchestration, instrumentation and monitoring tools, doing and acting on Ops before poop has hit the fan is, at least, equally important. Doing operations doesn’t have to be boring, not even for Ops-fearing Developers. The DevOps ambition is to own and run what you have built–and taking real accountability of your work is actually also fun.
